Rutland House Care Home offers Dementia and Older People (65+) care. People receive their medicines as prescribed and staff know how to manage medicines safely. People were supported to maintain relationships with family and friends who were important to them.
However, a paid subscription allows more information to be added and as a result a higher profile score. – the service isn't performing as well as it should and we have told the service how it must improve. Our infection prevention and control inspections look at how well people using a service are kept safe from the spread of infections. They told us that they were always welcomed warmly and they were kept informed about any changes in people’s health.
Staffing
At that time we gave the service an overall rating of ‘Good’ although we imposed one requirement notice which we checked during a focused inspection in August 2015. We found the provider was meeting the regulations we looked at that inspection. There were enough staff on duty day and night to make sure people’s needs were met in a safe and timely way. People experienced care and support which was respectful, dignified and took into account their right to privacy and confidentiality. People in care homes receive accommodation and nursing or personal care as single package under one contractual agreement.

Funding for care in England
EAC Advice is a free, specialist and independent telephone advice service provide by the charity Elderly Accommodation Counsel . We frame our offer around ‘home’ because we understand its importance for everyone. As with hotels, the cost of living in a care home varies widely according to its location, the size of your room or suite, and the facilities on offer. There is often a substantial difference between fees charged to those who can afford the costs themselves and those who receive help from their Local Authority. A majority of homes aim to cater for both, but some target only one or the other. A care home is a residential setting where a number of older people live, usually in single rooms or hotel-style suites, because they need regular or continuous access to care.

The site’s 4 million visitors a year comprise roughly 45% older people, 45% younger family and relatives, and 10% professionals who work with older people. Some care homes are registered to provide personal care only, for example help with washing, dressing and giving medication. Others also provide nursing, and will have a nurse on duty twenty-four hours a day. They inspect care services to ensure they are supporting peoples wellbeing; appropriately setup; properly planning out care; are well led; and effectively staffed, each criteria is given a grade out of 6. Care plans were in place which reflected people’s specific needs and their individual choices and beliefs for how they lived their lives.

Accommodation is arranged over two floors and there is a stair lift to assist people to access the upper floor. Communal areas include a lounge and dining area on the ground floor and a number of smaller sitting rooms on the first floor. One person living at the home was able to contribute to the inspection process and he told us it was a “good home." We spoke with four care workers and three relatives and the registered manager.

Also known as Care & Repair agencies, are local non-profit organisations set up to help older people think about, plan, finance and organise work on their homes. These services tackle smaller repair jobs, including installing safety & security devices. They are provided by many local Age UKs as well as other organisations. Care services offered to people in housing-with-care facilities are regulated, subject to periodic inspections and awarded grades. The people who use the service are adults with mental health needs. Residential care homes provide residents with accommodation, meals, and assistance with personal care and medication. However, a nursing care home will also provide medical care from a qualified nurse, including treatment for any illness or injuries. The issues we found with the management of medicines did not give us full assurance that the provider’s quality assurance systems were fully effective.
